Background
Sifiso Shozi is the founder and CEO of CHWS, an ICT company based in Umlazi Township, KZN, specializing in technical support, network installation, and basic computer practical training services. Despite its humble beginnings operating from a tiny room in the backyard of Shozi’s home, CHWS has undergone a remarkable transformation since its inception in August 2014, particularly due to Shozi’s participation in the Black Umbrellas incubation program.
Engagement with Black Umbrellas
Sifiso Shozi’s journey with Black Umbrellas began with a recommendation from a friend. Intrigued, he visited their branch at Smart Exchange to learn more and found himself immediately drawn to their incubation program. He jumped into the assessment process on the same day, eager to seize the opportunity for growth and development. He was accepted to join the Black Umbrellas Foundation Programme on the 21st of May 2021 and completed the programme 6 months later.
Transformational Impact
The modules offered by Black Umbrellas, covering Business Management, Marketing Strategy, and comprehensive Business Planning, profoundly influenced CHWS’s trajectory. The programme opened doors to various opportunities, including partnerships with Siyafunda CTC, Global HR Strategies, SAB Business Start-Up Boost, Dimension Data, and Afrika Tikkun, each providing invaluable resources and support for CHWS’s expansion.
Tangible Growth and Development
Prior to the Black Umbrella program, CHWS struggled with limited resources, operating from a small space with minimal equipment and no employees. However, post-program participation, CHWS has flourished. They now boast a fully equipped workspace with 10 operational computers, three printers, projectors, laptops, and a prefabricated container conducive to their services. Additionally, the company has expanded its team, employing three full-time and two part-time staff members, all paid employees. They have obtained a customs clearing agent license for import and export goods, and their customer base has grown by a remarkable 70%. Before joining the program, their yearly revenue was under R60,000, which now exceeds R100,000, marking a significant financial milestone.
